［GDC 2015］「Game Developers Choice Awards」のGame of the Yearは「Middle-earth：Shadow of Mordor」に。坂口博信氏は生涯功労賞に輝く

Game of the Yearを受賞した「Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor」の開発者達

　北米時間の2015年3月4日，開催中のGame Developers Conference 2015で「Game Developers Choice Awards」が発表になった。これは，2014年にリリースされたゲームの中から，約500人のゲーム開発者が優秀作品を選出するという恒例のイベントで，「Game of the Year」に輝いた「Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor」（PC / PS4 / PS3 / Xbox One / Xbox 360）を含む10部門の優秀作品が，以下のとおり発表になっている。

• Innovation Award　「Monument Valley」
• Best Technology　「Destiny」
• Best Audio　「Alien: Isolation」
• Best Visual Art　「Monument Valley」

• Audience Award　「Elite: Dangerous」

　さらに，優れたインディーズ作品に賞を与える「Independent Game Festival」も合わせて開催され，こちらも大賞に相当する「Seumas McNally Grand Prize」など計8部門で，優秀作品が選出されている。

坂口博信氏

　「Game Developers Choice Awards」では，大きな業績を残したゲーム関係者にも賞を贈っているのだが，2月4日に掲載した記事でもお伝えしたとおり，スクウェア（現スクウェア・エニックス）在籍時にファイナルファンタジーシリーズを制作したことで世界的に知られるミストウォーカーの坂口博信氏が，昨年の久夛良木 健氏に続いて「生涯功労賞」（Lifetime Achievement Award）を受賞している（関連記事）。

　壇上に立った坂口氏は，「生涯功労賞をもらうなんて，なんだか引退したみたいです」と冗談を言いながらも，「まだまだ現役なので，皆さんと一緒に素晴らしいゲームを作り続けていきたい」と力強くコメントし，来場者から万雷の拍手を贈られていた。

「Game Developers Choice Awards」の司会はティム・シェーファー（Tim Schafer）氏が務めた

　ちなみに，生涯功労賞では毎回，受賞者を“ネタ”にしたおかしなビデオが作成，披露されるのだが，坂口氏のテーマは「ラッパー」。「氏は昔からラッパーになりたかったのだが，ヒット作を連発するので，希望が叶わなかった」という内容で，授賞式の最後，坂口氏はサングラスをかけて，ラッパー風のポーズを取っていたことをお伝えしておきたい。

　このほか，Ambassador AwardにはRomero GamesのBrendan Romero氏が，Pioneer AwardにはFrontier DevelopmentsのDavid Braben氏がそれぞれ選ばれている。
